Week 28

Wow - the weeks have flown by. I am now officially in my 3rd trimester! I can't believe we will have our little bundle of joy in 3 months. I am getting much bigger now and it is getting harder to sit up and buckle my shoes. I still haven't had any real cravings and haven't wanted anything weird. I do have the nesting bug and want to have everything in its place and put away. It is hard not to buy all of the baby stuff already. Jef and I have completed our registries at Babies R Us and Target.
Jef and I attended our Childbirth Prep class this last Saturday and we were both fascinated by it. It was a 6 hour class and we could have probably sat there even longer. It is amazing what the human body is capable of.
The below pic is from around Thanksgiving and I am already bigger. I'll try to get some more pics in the next few weeks.

Week 22

Jef and I got back this week from a weekend getaway Maui vacation. We think of it as our last chance vacation before the baby comes. Here are a couple of pics from our trip - I am really starting to show now!

Week 20

Jef and I had our 20 week ultrasound on Friday and found out that we are having a baby girl. We're super excited and can't wait for her to get here. Jef is going to be in so much trouble - he is going to be wrapped around her little fingers. :-)

During the ultrasound, she was in the weirdest position - you can see in the pic her legs are straight up in the air. After the appointment, we went to a sporting goods store and made our first clothing purchase - a Columbia snow jacket/pant set. It was so adorable and on an awesome clearance, so we couldn't pass it up. Let's just hope it is cold in CA next winter, otherwise she will only get to wear it when we come back to CO/WY for Thanksgiving.

The pregnancy is still going great. She's been kicking like crazy lately and it is so fun feeling her move. I can be in the middle of a boring meeting and she'll start wiggling around and I feel like I'm having a secret party in my belly that no one else is privy to. I love it!

Week 19

Today was the first day I felt the baby move and knew for sure that is what it was. So exciting! I can't wait until it can be felt from the outside so that Jef can feel it too. We find out the gender 1 week from today and we are so excited to know what we're having. It's going to be an excruciating week waiting!

Week 17

So I am now into week 17 and things are going pretty good. No more 1st trimester tiredness or food aversions. I pretty much feel like I'm not even pregnant other than my stomach looking fatter, but I am definitely not showing yet. Wish it would happen soon...

Yesterday we had a doctor's appointment and of course Jef came along. The nurse went to weigh me and she kept pushing the dial up, up, up, until she was +25 lbs from the last time I was there and she asked me to go ahead and take my shoes off. I was freaking out! I have been weighing myself at home and had only gained ~4 lbs. over this whole pregnancy, so this was way out of line! I get back on the scale and this time it works just fine and it is in line with my at-home reading. The nurse continues to tell us that heels can make you off-balance and that can cause the scale to act weird. As soon as she leaves the exam room, Jef starts bursting out laughing and telling me how funny the expression on my face was - turns out, he had put his foot on the corner of the scale and pushed down! What a stinker!

The appointment went well - little one is doing fine. We heard the heartbeat and the doctor said it was on the higher side (which the old housewives tale says means a girl). Jef is still saying he thinks it's a boy, but I think it's a girl. We'll find out in 3 more weeks on 10/15. Can't wait - I want to start picking out stuff for the nursery!

Week 13

Yesterday we had our First Trimester Screening and everything looks great! We have 2 arms, 2 legs, hands, feet and 2 brain hemispheres! If you look closely at the picture, you can see the foot is labeled and the baby's hand is up at the face. It was fun yesterday seeing all of the pregnant women in the doctor's office. Jef can't wait for me to look more pregnant.
I'm definitely starting to feel my energy levels return to normal and my appetite is picking up. My lower abdomen is starting to protrude slightly, but is still not noticeable to others. My update this week said baby is the size of a medium shrimp or a peach (those seem very different to me, but I guess the length/diameter is about the same).

Week 12

Wow - 1st trimester down! It flew by so fast. On Tuesday, we had our monthly doctor visit and got to hear movement and the heartbeat. Jef wished he had brought the camera so we could have recorded the heartbeat (next time). It was absolutely amazing. I teared up but was able to keep it together. Everything sounded great and we go in for our 1st trimester screening on Monday 9/23.

This week, baby is the size of a plum and almost all systems are fully formed. I'm still not showing (actually lost weight from my last visit), but the doctor said the jig will be up in a couple weeks as my uterus starts to push out past my pelvic bone. I'm planning on breaking the news at work after our appointment next week. I'll be happy not to have to be so hush hush about it.

Week 10

Today I start week 10 and supposedly my baby is the size of a prune or kumkwat. We moved into our new place and are probably 95% unpacked. The last 5% is going to be challenging, but I'm optimistic we will get it done by the weekend. I've been having cramps which have been very uncomfortable (especially at work). I can't wait to tell my boss so I can be more open when I'm not feeeling well, but I'm trying to wait until after our first trimester screening on 8/23.

Getting This Blog Started

Okay, so I'm not so good with keeping up on these things, but I'm going to try to be good about this so I can keep everyone up to date. We had an ultrasound on July 12th where we saw the baby's heart beat. Our next appointment is August 17th.

So far pregnancy hasn't been too hard for me. I get nauseous occasionally, feel bloated and am tired constantly and am turned off of food a lot of the time. I smelled grilled chicken last week and I just about lost it. I had to have Jef go in and put it into a plastic container so that I could go back into the kitchen. I haven't really had any weird cravings, if anything, I'm not hungry nearly as much as I was before pregnancy and I get full really fast. (I am certain this will change as I get further along in my pregnancy.)

I have been very hormonal, but I think I've been doing a good job of keeping it to myself except for when I'm around Jef. He's my "safe" person that I feel okay to cry around and so it's a lot harder to stop myself. He doesn't make fun of me, he just holds me and tells me everything is okay. I feel truly blessed to have such a good husband.
